The Smiles on Wings’ store features handcrafted items from Thailand. Each unique product was individually picked by Dr. Usa Bunnag to represent the beauty and diversity of Thailand. Many items were purchased from villagers in small towns in an effort to promote self reliance and stimulate economy in these communities.
Words about our products from Dr. Bunnag.
“As a humanitarian worker, I worked extensively with the hill tribe people in remote areas of Thailand and with the victims of the Tsunami. Through this experience, I realized the best way to help the people of Thailand was to provide an outlet for the villagers to become self-reliant. The Smiles on Wings' store brings you an array of jewelry, silk, cotton, woodcarvings, ceramics, furniture and other home-decor items.”

Learn More about our Products
We purchase many of our products from fair-trade organizations that promote self-reliance for women and stimulate economy in small villages.
Below is a sampling of the groups in which we purchase our products.Hill Tribe Products:
These products are from Hill Tribe Promotion Center supported by the King of Thailand, Thai Tribal Crafts (a non-profit organization helping tribal villagers in Thailand) and from villagers in remote villages that I came in contact with during my humanitarian missions.
OTOP (One Tambon, One Product):
(Tambon – cluster of villages): Initiated by the Thai government, this program was launched in 2001 to promote products made by local artisans. The program helps generate more income for the villagers. Each product is uniquely crafted and handmade with skill and creativity and designed unique to their localities. The Thai government currently helps in providing advice on production methods, quality control, packaging and designs to make them even more attractive to the export market.

Tsunami Victims Handmade Products
These products are created through different non-profit organizations set up to help the victims coping with tragedy. After my extensive involvement with the Tsunami Relief Effort, I came to appreciate these beautiful products. Working on the products serves as a healing process for the victims to cope with the tragedy and earn a living at the same time.
